How are your savings calculated?

Our calculator uses real PVGIS solar irradiation data (Photovoltaic Geographical Information System), the official European Commission database for photovoltaic production at any location. These are the production factors applied for each island:

For every 1 kW installed, a home in Mallorca produces 1,500 kWh per year. An average residential 5 kW installation generates 7,500 kWh annually.

kWh/kWp/year · Ibiza

Ibiza has the highest solar irradiation of the Balearics. A 5 kW installation produces 7,600 kWh annually · ideal for villas with high summer consumption.

1.470
kWh/kWp/year · Menorca

Menorca has slightly lower production due to its higher latitude and occasional cloud cover, but remains excellent for residential self-consumption.

What penalties does the calculator apply?

The result is not a fixed figure based only on your island. The calculator automatically adjusts according to your real situation:

  • East or West orientation: −15% production vs optimal South.
  • Unknown orientation: −10% as a precaution.
  • Flat: −30% considering only proportional roof share (participation coefficient).
  • Electric vehicle: +1,800 kWh/year to base consumption (an average EV drives 12,000-15,000 km per year, adding around 1,800-2,250 kWh).

Does the calculator replace a technical survey?

No. This calculator gives you a quick 5-step estimate to understand if the investment makes sense. A real technical survey goes deeper and considers other factors not measured here:

Frequently asked questions about the calculator

How accurate is the solar savings calculator?

The calculator gives an estimate based on official PVGIS data: 1,500 kWh/kWp/year in Mallorca, 1,520 in Ibiza and 1,470 in Menorca. Final accuracy depends on a personalised technical survey which considers hourly consumption, exact roof orientation and specific shading. The typical difference is ±10-15% from the estimated figure here.

Does the calculator include savings with a lithium battery?

Not directly. The calculator estimates savings for a grid-connected photovoltaic installation. If you add a lithium battery, self-consumption rises from 30-40% to 75-85% and real savings can be 20-30% higher. The technical survey gives you the exact figure for your case.

Does the calculator apply the 40% IRPF deduction?

Yes. The result estimates the IRPF deduction at 40% (mid-bracket) from the gross price. Important: the deduction applies in the tax return of the following year. The new IDAE Balearics call is pending publication; meanwhile we handle IRPF + municipal IBI rebate for you.

Why does the calculator penalise if I live in a flat?

In a flat, the roof is communal and you can usually only install your proportional share. The calculator applies a -30% production penalty to reflect this realistic limitation. On well-oriented communal roofs, savings can be greater with a project shared among neighbours · contact us to assess it.

What if my roof faces East or West?

An East or West orientation produces approximately 15% less than the optimal South orientation, but is still perfectly profitable in the Balearics. South-east or south-west orientation only loses 3-5%. The calculator applies the 15% penalty automatically if you select East-West.

Why select "electric vehicle" if I do not have one yet?

Because sizing the installation for a future EV saves you money. If you buy an EV within 1-2 years, a small installation might fall short and you would have to upgrade it at extra cost. If you select "Yes, I will have one soon", the calculator adds 1,800 kWh/year to base consumption and recommends a suitable larger power.

Do I have to give my details to see the result?

No. The calculation appears on screen without registration or email. We only ask for details if you want to receive the calculation by email or schedule a free technical visit. Your data is only used to prepare your quote and never shared with third parties.

Is the calculator also valid for businesses?

It works for a first estimate, but business self-consumption installations (hotels, restaurants, industrial buildings) are different. Power starts at 15-20 kWp and goes up to 500 kWp or more, with faster ROI (4-6 years) due to daytime consumption.
